Rob received his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from East Carolina University and Master's Degree in Music Education from the University of Illinois. While at the University of Illinois, he studied instrumental conducting with James Keene and technology for music education with Sam Reese.

Kate Frear - Assistant Director of Bands, GBHS

Kate Frear is a recent graduate of George Mason University, receiving a Bachelor of Music degree with a concentration in education.  She has been a percussion instructor and adjudicator in the Northern Virginia area, and has worked extensively with the Yorktown High School Marching and Concert Bands, as well as the Indoor Percussion Ensemble.  While at Mason, Ms. Frear studied with Mr. Ken Harbison, Assistant Principal Percussionist with the National Symphony Orchestra.  Ms. Frear maintains professional memberships with MENC: the National Association for Music Education, the National Band Association, and the Percussive Arts Society. 

Mike Oare – Director of Bands, GBMS 

Mike received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and an additional degree in composition and arranging from Old Dominion University. He has been the director of bands at Great Bridge Middle School since 1991. Mike serves as the arranger for the Marching Wildcats.
                                                                                         

Sandy Lister – Guard Instructor, Coordinator

Sandy is a 1978 graduate of Great Bridge High School and rejoined our band staff in 1994. She is in demand throughout the year as an adjudicator for Color Guard both in the fall at Marching Band Competitions and for Indoor Guard. Sandy was a member of the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps from 1978-1980

Mike is a 2006 graduate of Great Bridge High and was the 2006 recipient of the Louis Armstrong Award.  He is currently majoring in business at Old Dominion University.
